Everything hits the perfect note, from the plush interior surroundings through the sublime works of chef Bruce Woods (formerly of Centro and Brassaii) and onto Modus’s 300-bottle wine selection (behind which, find sommelier Ruben Elmer of Profile Wine Group, who has also previously worked at Canoe and Auberge du Pommier). Service is swift — a blessing for the urban power players who need to eat their tomato-sauce-kissed gnocchi in a hurry — and the room, with its big tables and high ceilings, is gorgeous. Walk past the butternut squash agnolotti and the lemon-scented olive oil ice cream at your peril.
