The menu is classic French at this friendly Rosedale stalwart, where regulars have been faithful for years. Bistro favourites — including standouts duck confit, traditional steak frites and richly flavoured fish soup — are consistently good. The cassoulet, with falling-off-the-bone duck on a bed of sausage and beans, is a house specialty. Service at Pastis is warm and confident, and the atmosphere inside the sweet yellow dining room, where diners stop by for a bite after a tennis match at nearby Toronto Lawn or York Racquets, is lively. Close up the experience with a truly terrific crème brulée or a stack of profiteroles.
